The Charity:
North London Hospice...a truly multi-faith hospice providing specialist end-of-life care

About the Charity
North London Hospice North London Hospice is a truly multi-faith hospice providing specialist end-of-life care for those living in the London boroughs of Barnet, Haringey and Enfield.

Funding
All our services are provided free of charge. Our current annual running cost is £5.6 million, with only 20% of that coming from the NHS. This means that we need to find funding for 3 out of every 4 patients through fundraising activities and donations.

What we do
We provide a whole range of services including specialist care and advice on relief of symptoms such as pain, breathing difficulties or mobility problems in order to improve quality of life.

Much of this work takes place in the community through our team of specialist doctors and nurses who advise and support families, GPs and district nurses on the best possible palliative care to enable people to remain in their own homes. For those requiring additional support we run a day centre and a newly refurbished 17-bed inpatient unit within the Hospice setting.

Hospice at home
One of our major projects, which begun last year, has been the development of Hospice at Home. This was borne out of national figures showing that two-thirds of terminally ill people wish to die at home, close to family and friends and in familiar surroundings. However, many families find it difficult to manage this on their own.

Caring for someone can be physically and emotionally very demanding and North London Hospice has found that many patients and carers need extra nursing support to enable them to remain at home.

We place additional care, including trained hospice nurses in patients’ homes to give them the opportunity to receive specialist end-of-life care in familiar surroundings as their illness progresses. This is offered round the clock if necessary, for a set period of time and is in addition to our regular community care.

Of course we will need more nurses to make it possible to provide the same care at home as is available for patients staying in the hospice so we rely on your kind donations to give the best care possible.
